Vegas is the ultimate getaway.

So when it’s time to ‘get away from it all’, why not take a connecting flight to the City of Dreams from Seattle with Alaska Airlines in partnership with Icelandair?

Glittery oasis in the desert

Now popularly called “Sin City”, the origins of Las Vegas can actually be traced to devout Mormons who settled in the current downtown area in the middle of the nineteenth century. One can only wonder what those early pioneer settlers would think of Vegas today!
Current-day Las Vegas is Nevada State’s most populous city, not counting the myriad tourists who come every year to live their dream and hit the jackpot. The erstwhile holier-than-thou village in the dessert has metamorphosed into the ultimate metropolitan getaway – the place to indulge, spoil and pamper yourself far away from the daily grind.

City of golden dreams

Vegas – this legendary world capital of casinos, exotic shows with star entertainers and glitzy luxury hotels, the city of golden dreams, glittering with thousands of neon signs, the 24-hour town where the light never goes out and there’s always “a whole lotta Elvis goin’ on” – gives you everything and anything you desire, anytime and without ado.

The Strip is the heart of this buzzing city, a 6.8km stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard flanked by casinos, large hotels and themed attractions galore, with neon lights flashing and whirling in the black of night. But you can do more in Vegas than watch glitzy shows, play the slot machines or sit poker-faced in a tuxedo by a spinning roulette wheel.

Some just enjoy watching others stacking up their chips or losing them to the vagaries of Lady Luck, or hang around the lobby in hopes of perhaps spotting a world-famous face. For a break from the hustle and bustle of the casinos, you can visit the historic Old Mormon Fort. The Liberace Museum also makes for a unique experience. It may not be to everyone’s taste – any more than many other aspects of Vegas – but like the city itself, it’s one-of-a-kind.
